Apple Tasting Guide

Here are some of the varieties that we’ll have available during the season. Be sure to call us for specific information on what might be in stock at this time.

BRAEBURN (Available November and December)

Gold to green skin with a partial red blush. Braeburns are sweet/tart, crisp, aromatic and juicy.

CAMEO (Available November and December)

A red, pink and cream-striped apple. Excellent for fresh eating, Cameos are crisp, juicy and sweet. They keep well, too.

CORTLAND (Available late September through early November)

A large, aromatic apple with reddish-yellow color and snow-white flesh. A tender apple that’s good for fresh eating and cooking.

EMPIRE (Available September through December)

A cross between a McIntosh and a Red Delicious, this firm, crispy apple keeps well. Excellent for all uses.

ENTERPRISE (Available November and December)

Large, red and very firm with balanced flavor, Enterprise are excellent for cooking and baking.

FUJI (Available October through January)

Fujis are juicy, sweet, and crisp. These crunchy, firm-fleshed apples are delicious as snacks or in salads. Fujis also last a long time, making them perfect for winter baking.

GALA (Available September through December)

These sweet, crisp apples have a creamy color with a orangey-red blush. Galas are ideal for salads, snacking, and delicious when made into applesauce or pies.

GOLDEN DELICIOUS (Available September through January)

These are sweet, mellow flavored with thin delicate skin and firm flesh – excellent for snacking and cooking. Makes some of the best chunky applesauce.

GOLD RUSH (Available November and December)

A very tart, very firm apple. Yellow and not as attractive as you’d think, the phrase “don’t judge an apple by its skin” applies here! Once you try it, though, you’ll love it.

GOLDEN SUPREME (Available in September)

A buttery yellow apple that ripens just before traditional Golden Delicious. Similar to a Golden Delicious in every way – including an excellent eating and cooking apple!

HONEYCRISP (Available September through December)

Extremely large apple with a mottled red-orange color. Very crisp and juicy, this apple has a super-sweet, honey-like flavor. Excellent for eating, baking, just about everything. If you haven’t tried one, you should!

JONAGOLD (October through December)

An apple that's tart and sweet. A perfect blend of Jonathan and Golden Delicious. Perfect for baking and applesauce – a large apple that’s easy to peel.

JONATHAN (Available September through December)

Traditional favorite – a tart, firm apple with a lot of crispness. Red and green in color, is good for almost all uses, including eating, baking and applesauce.

McINTOSH (Available August through January)

One of our all-time favorites, McIntosh are red and green with a unique spicy flavor. Tender-fleshed, this apple is perfect for cooking, smooth applesauce and baked goods.

MUTSU (Available late October through December)

Very large green/yellow apple. Sweet and juicy, plus a good keeper, this apple is excellent for all uses.

PRIMA (Available August and September)

A very tart, red and green apple that is good for baking. Makes excellent pies and baked apples!

PINK LADY (Available in November)

Firm, crisp flesh and a unique, tangy-tart, sweet flavor are characteristic of this apple. A pretty iridescent pink color, Pink Lady’s are favorites in gift baskets.

RED DELICIOUS (Available September through January)

It's crisp, sweet and juicy and the perfect snack food. Red Delicious apples are excellent in fresh salads. Not the best apple for cooking or baking, though.

REDFREE (Available August and September)

A medium-sized, early fall reddish apple that is good for cooking, eating and applesauce.

ROME BEAUTY (Available October through January)

These apples, which are also known as Red Rome, are firm and slightly sweet. Excellent as baked apples.
